Rubber figure - Leatherback turtle

Being the largest species of sea turtle, it can reach up to 2 meters in length, weighing over 500kg. The shell is covered by thick, rigid skin with a leathery appearance, featuring 5 dorsal keels or ridges (7 if we count those on each side). The coloration is bluish-black on the back and lighter on the underside, marked with irregular light spots, more abundant on the ventral side. They are solitary animals that approach the coast for feeding and reproduction. Their diet is varied, including algae, jellyfish, echinoderms, mollusks, fish, and crustaceans. Although found in our waters, it does not reproduce on the Portuguese coast. Its distribution is broad, covering all oceans, from cold, temperate, subtropical, to tropical waters. It is the second most commonly stranded sea turtle species in Portugal.
