The Gray Wolf (Canis lupus) is one of the large terrestrial mammals with the widest distribution across continents, after humans and livestock. Once, these mammals inhabited the entire northern hemisphere, and their sighting was quite common. However, humans and the gray wolf have had an antagonistic relationship from early on. Although they almost never attack humans, the gray wolf is considered a frightening and malevolent predator. They usually attack domestic animals, especially livestock, and thus earned the animosity of humans. Because of this, many wolves were killed. In various parts of the world, such as in almost all states of the United States or in Central Europe, gray wolves have been exterminated. Members of the species can still be found in Alaska, Canada, and Asia.
