123 Little Train

With this friendly train, children set off to discover the numbers from one to five. We arrange the train cards outlined on a lit, calm play surface without other distracting elements and invite the child to assemble the train puzzle. Thanks to the self-correcting fittings, the child can have fun assembling the train independently.
We give her all the time she needs to freely handle the material while observing the colors and shapes and intervene only if we see her struggling, with some small suggestions

LEARN TO COUNT
After the train is assembled, we invite the child to place each passenger in their wagon. While inserting the cards into the corresponding windows, we count out loud and, pointing to the children on the train, say: “Look, in the first wagon there is one child,” then pointing to the second wagon: “And here are two children,” and so on up to five. We can also indicate to the child that when there are many people, the wagon is longer. For example, the last wagon is made up of five pieces because it has to be bigger to carry five children. As we explain, we can count: “Look, here there are one, two, three, four and... five children.” Repeating the counting several times, also with the other wagons, the child will intuitively understand that the last number counted is also the one that describes the quanti-

For older children, who are already familiar with numbers, we also mention the graphic signs that represent the numbers from one to five, indicated on each wagon.
